Wangjiangjing town in Jiaxing is an important gateway to southern Jiangsu from northern Zhejiang, lying along the border between the two provinces.
In 2019, Wangjiangjing was included among the top 1,000 towns in terms of comprehensive strength in China.
The town is home to more than 6,000 private companies engaged in textiles, chemical fibers, injection molding, and paper making, among others. The textile industry is Wangjiangjing's pillar industry, accounting for 90 percent of its total economic output.
The Great Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, runs through the town, giving rise to a unique sacrificial ceremony known as the Net-Boat Fair, during which a series of activities are held, including a sacrificial ceremony, boat-racing event and folk culture performances.
Fishermen and boat operators from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai all gather in the town, with their boats stretching from Liansi Lake to the ancient section of the Great Canal.
In addition to the Net-Boat Fair in the spring, Wangjiangjing also hosts the Lotus Festival in the summer, Great Canal Concert in the autumn, and Fishing Culture Festival in the winter.
