Facial recognition technology has been widely used in administrative approval processes in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, according to local media reports on Dec 22.

In an effort to further improve its business environment and promote the integrated development of government services in the Yangtze River Delta region, Jiaxing has rolled out measures to accelerate the digital transformation of governments, as well as streamline administration tasks, enabling approvals and services to be handled without the need for a second visit.

In September, the government introduced the terminal device identification system for facial recognition, marking that the city's administrative approval processes have entered the facial recognition era.

Relying on the Zhejiang Government Services Platform, the application of facial recognition technology will greatly promote online and offline data sharing, as well as reduce the government approval process and improve services, significantly shortening the time for approvals.

Currently, Jiaxing government has allocated 73 types of certification materials into the facial recognition system, covering several high-frequency certificates and licenses, such as household registration, social security, and real estate.
