During the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, deputies from Taizhou, Zhejiang province, paid close attention to the machine tool and pharmaceutical industries.

Wu Haiping, director of the Standing Committee of the Taizhou Municipal People's Congress, emphasized the importance of supporting the high-quality development of the machine tool industry and expediting the establishment of world-class industrial clusters.

Wu proposed enhancing independent innovation, supporting the establishment of a national engineer base, production and education integration bases, and modern industrial colleges in Taizhou, and adding machine tool-related disciplines in Taizhou University for talent cultivation.

Meanwhile, Chen Baohua, president of Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Co, suggested amending the drug patent term compensation system to include an "export exemption" provision.

Chen argued that the current patent system, although extending sales protection for patented drugs, inadvertently hinders domestic companies from exporting patented products due to restrictions during the compensation period. He then emphasized how an "export exemption" could support industry competitiveness, secure the supply chain, and promote domestic production.
