China-Africa collaboration cultivates sustainable agriculture in Taizhou

In the greenhouses at Xihe Organic Farm in Huangyan district, Taizhou, Zhejiang province, the bountiful bean pods hanging from the tendrils of cowpeas are a symbol of the cooperation between China and Africa.

Felix Dapare Dakora, an academician from South Africa and an expert in biological nitrogen fixation mechanisms and applied technologies at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, brought African short-podded cowpeas to the Xihe Organic Farm last year.

The collaboration marks a milestone in exploring the synergies between Chinese and foreign agricultural practices for sustainable development. The African short-podded cowpeas not only promise high yields but also enrich the soil with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and essential trace elements.

Additionally, Felix has also shared international planting techniques for key crops like Huangyan oranges and watermelons. By actively exchanging knowledge with local experts, he seeks to contribute to global green agricultural development.

Felix said that he hopes the collective expertise of Chinese and African scientists can help address challenges in African agriculture and lead to mutually beneficial results.
