A special Quyi fair took place in Luqiao district, Taizhou, Zhejiang province, on Nov 16 and 17, offering a fresh approach to Quyi (a collection of storytelling, crosstalk, and singing).

"This is the second year Luqiao has hosted the Quyi fair and we want to allow residents to experience Luqiao's Quyi culture in a relaxed setting and attract more young people," said Zheng Jianbo, chairman of the Luqiao Quyi Association.

The Quyi Museum's pavilion featured traditional tea houses, Quyi-related books, props, and cultural creations. Young people gathered to appreciate Quyi performances while drinking tea.

An exhibition area showcased various types of Quyi and intangible cultural heritage crafts, introducing the history, genres, and famous performers through images, texts, and physical exhibits.

"We held interactive Quyi performances at the fair, breaking the traditional barriers between performers and the audience," Zheng said. This year, they also incorporated contemporary cultural elements into the performances, making them more appealing to a wider audience.

Known as the "Hometown of Chinese Quyi", Luqiao has been striving to preserve and push forward Quyi culture. It has established an innovative system that includes a district-level Quyi Museum, 10 town-level Quyi activity bases, and rural cultural halls across the district.
