The 17th International Peatland Congress is set to take place in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, from Aug 5 to 9, marking the first time the high-level event will be held in China.

Organized by the International Peatland Society, the congress serves as a platform for global experts, scholars, industry leaders, and managers in the peatland sector to come together and exchange insights.

Taizhou's selection as the host city can be attributed to its unique advantages for the peat industry. With Toumen Port's extensive hinterland, efficient land and sea transportation, and strong connectivity, Taizhou is poised to become a cost-effective hub for China's peat industry.

Professor Wang Shengzhong, chairman of the Congress Organizing Committee, highlighted Taizhou's potential to leverage its strategic location and transportation infrastructure to build a specialized port with international influence and form a distinctive distribution center in the country.

Taizhou's agricultural landscape, featuring crops like citrus fruits, waxberries, and watermelons, coupled with its robust export-oriented agriculture, provides ample market demand for peat products.

To support the congress and advance peat research and industry globally, Taizhou has taken proactive steps. In January, the Taizhou Peat Research Institute was established, signaling a commitment to developing green agriculture and addressing key technical challenges in the peat industry.

Through collaborations with academic and research institutions, the institute aims to drive innovation, expand peat applications, and propel the healthy growth of the peat industry.
