A total of 20 large boxes of waxberries weighing over 400 kilograms from Xianju in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, embarked on a journey to Singapore on June 13. This is the first batch of waxberries exported from Xianju this year.

The meticulously selected fruits, each weighing 20 to 30 grams, belong to the Dongkui waxberry variety, which is renowned for its large fruits. According to Zhao Yifan, head of Xiandai Agricultural Development Co, these waxberries are priced at approximately 300 yuan ($41.37) for a box of 15 in Singaporean markets.

As the largest waxberry exporter in Xianju, Xiandai plans to export around 20 batches over the course of this year's waxberry season, totaling 20 metric tons valued at over 1 million yuan. In addition to Singapore, its markets extend to over 10 countries and regions, including Canada, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.

Harvested in the early morning, the waxberries undergo a rigorous process of pre-cooling, sealing, and packaging before embarking on their cold chain journey. Within 2-3 days, they will grace Singaporean markets, offering consumers a taste of Xianju's freshest produce.

Xianju's reputation as the "Hometown of the Waxberry in China" is well-earned, with its conducive environment, high-quality soil, and perfect climate nurturing the growth of these exquisite fruits.

In 2023, the county's waxberry production reached 120,000 tons, valued at 1.12 billion yuan, catalyzing income growth for over 100,000 fruit farmers.
