A total of 230,000 motorcycles were shipped abroad from Taizhou, Zhejiang province, from January to February, marking an 84 percent year-on-year increase, according to the latest data from Taizhou Customs.

The significant upswing in motorcycle exports during this period can be primarily attributed to the sustained efforts of local motorcycle brands to innovate and adapt to evolving consumer demands in both domestic and international markets.

One such company which exemplifies this trend is Zhongneng, specializing in producing a diverse range of high-displacement motorcycles, fuel scooters, and new energy motorcycles.

The company's long-term spending in research and development, valued at over 20 million yuan ($2.77 million) annually, has led to the introduction of nearly 10 new products each year. These products, tailored for diverse markets, have helped the company secure a foothold in over 80 countries and regions worldwide, including South America, Africa, and the Middle East.

QJ Motor, another prominent local industry leader, has also achieved success in overseas markets. Since 2020, the company has focused on enhancing the added value of its products and strengthening its competitive edge. Consequently, its annual sales volume has surpassed 170,000 units, generating 1.9 billion yuan in annual revenue for three consecutive years.

"Aiming to triple our export volume this year, we are committed to building a Chinese motorcycle brand with international recognition," stated a representative from QJ Motor.

Bullish on the industry's future outlook, Tong Dingtao, general manager of Zhongneng, said, "Today, motorcycles have incorporated the functions of leisure and entertainment, gradually transitioning from a mode of transport to a smart terminal. The long-term market prospects are promising."

Taizhou is recognized as one of the country's major motorcycle production and export bases, housing 173 export-oriented motorcycle enterprises, official statistics show.
