Wu Haiping, a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress, has been advocating for the establishment of a world-class chemical new materials base in Zhejiang province, with the coastal city of Taizhou serving as its core.

During the deliberations on the government work report at the second session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing on March 5, Wu, also director of the standing committee of the Taizhou Municipal People's Congress, emphasized the potential advantages of such an initiative. He highlighted that the establishment of the facility would significantly enhance the overall layout of China's coastal petrochemical industry, playing a pivotal role in advancing high-quality economic development and fortifying national security.

Wu urged intensified efforts at the national level to develop the layout of the chemical new materials industry. Notably, he pointed out a large-scale petrochemical base is currently absent between Ningbo in Zhejiang province and Quanzhou in Fujian province. It's imperative to address the void, as the area between the two cities, which are 800 kilometers apart, stands as the most developed region for downstream petrochemical manufacturing and the real economy, as well as the most active area for private enterprise in China.

Wu noted that with the rapid development of the coastal petrochemical industry in Zhejiang province in recent years, a solid foundation has been laid for the development of chemical new materials.

Consequently, Wu stressed the necessity for national attention and support in constructing a world-class chemical new materials base along the coast of Zhejiang.

He identified Taizhou, situated in the heart of the coastal region of Zhejiang, as an ideal location for the core area of the proposed world-class chemical new materials base, and proposed the inclusion of the new materials project in the list of national major projects or relevant national plans to grant it specific policies in terms of land use, land reclamation, as well as energy and coal consumption.
