Taizhou Bay has recently gained recognition as one of the most beautiful bays in Zhejiang province, showcasing the outstanding achievements of the local community in ecological conservation and sustainable development.
Located in the eastern part of Taizhou, the river-mouth bay stretches from Shangpan town in the county-level city of Linhai to Jinqing town in Luqiao district, covering a vast sea area of 473 square kilometers.
One of the key factors contributing to the bay's recognition is its "Blue Circle" model, a pioneering initiative that effectively manages marine plastic waste. This visionary project was honored with the United Nations' Champion of the Earth award earlier last year for its innovative approach to addressing the issue.
Additionally, Taizhou Bay has achieved a remarkable 100 percent certification rate for marine aquaculture, ensuring the implementation of comprehensive pollution prevention facilities across all 33 fishing ports.
An investment of 357 million yuan ($49.91 million) has been dedicated to the successful ecological restoration of the Baisha Bay coastal wetland, an integral part of Taizhou Bay. This restoration effort has revitalized 2,472 meters of beach and rejuvenated 224 hectares of coastal wetland.
Moreover, significant progress has been made in improving the environment on the south bank of Jiaojiang. Thirteen illegal docks have been removed, and 18 sand and gravel factories, along with 28 coal plants, have been shut down. The implementation of the Jiaojiang South Bank Riverside Public Space Project has further enhanced the area, featuring a 710-meter embankment upgrade and a 1,110-meter landscape and ecological restoration project.
It is worth mentioning that the bays of Dachen Island in Taizhou have also been listed as candidates for the provincial beautiful bay title in Zhejiang, adding to the region's growing reputation for its stunning coastal landscapes.
