CPC sees membership rise 1.4% to 98.04 million

The number of the Communist Party of China members reached 98.04 million at the end of 2022, and the total membership was 1.4 percent up from the 2021 figure, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee said Friday.

The Party had nearly 5.07 million primary-level organizations as of the end of 2022, with a yearly growth rate of 2.6 percent, the department said in a report ahead of the 102nd anniversary of the Party on July 1.

Among the total, there were 29.3 million female Party members, accounting for 29.9 percent. Party members from ethnic groups other than Han accounted for 7.6 percent, and those with a college degree or above accounted for 54.7 percent, figures from the report showed.

Nearly 2.45 million people joined the Party last year, and there were about 20.96 million applicants to join the Party as of the end of last year, it showed.

Among the members who joined the Party last year, females accounted for 45.5 percent, ethnic groups other than Han accounted for 10.5 percent, people aged 35 or younger accounted for 81.2 percent, and those with a college degree or above accounted for 51.4 percent, according to the report.
