Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Co Ltd was founded in 1989, and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2003. It is a large scale modern pharmaceutical group integrating pharmaceutical preparations and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

With a registered capital of 780 million yuan ($ 115.4 million) and total assets valued at 4.5 billion yuan, the company covers an area of more than 1.2 square kilometers and has 15 branches and subsidiaries in the United States, Shanghai, Jiangsu province and Hangzhou.

Huahai Pharmaceutical was the first pharmaceutical company in China obtaining the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval, and has its own Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) document numbers. It is also among China's pharmaceutical companies with a high number of international certifications from such bodies as the FDA, the World Health Organization and the European Union. It spearheads in the fields of pharmaceutical exports and international development among the domestic pharmaceutical industry.

The company has its own core technology and is the leading company in the domestic APIs industry, especially in the field of cardiovascular drugs such as pril and sartan, of which it is the world's largest supplier.
