With wheat cakes, Shibing cakes and Maiyoujian are common.

The wheat cakes that Wenling natives have in daily life include the wheat cakes, Shibing cakes and Maiyoujian. The wheat cakes eaten at the Duanwu Festival are usually made from cudweed herb and ramie leaves.

Since cudweed herb is rarely seen in the fields now, ramie leaves are universally used to make wheat cakes.

The ramie leaves used for wheat cakes are the ones with a white underside. Other kinds of ramie leaves may cause disease if eaten.

After the ramie leaves have been picked, the leaf veins should be eliminated before the leaves are boiled. When boiling occurs, soda should be added to make the leaves greener. The boiled leaves should be washed with clean water and then dried. After that, the leaves and wheat flour are rubbed together to form balls about the size of a goose egg, which are pressed into cakes with a rolling pin. The cakes are baked on the pan until ready to be filled.
