Xianju lantern, also known as the “Lantern of Tang” among local people, is famed for its patterns, which are chiseled by a knife and pierced by a needle, as well as for the unframed body of the lantern. Xianju lanterns are categorized as either single lanterns or group lanterns. There are historically more than 80 kinds of single lanterns and 15 types of group lanterns. Enjoying the reputation of “China’s best lantern”, Xianju lanterns have won various awards, including the Gold Award of the “China Folk Art Fair” and “The Fourth International Art Fair”. In May 2006, Xianju lanterns were included in China's first Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritages.
