Quzhou firm makes breakthrough in eco-friendly electroplating
Manufacturer Baffil Chemical (Quzhou) Co, located in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, recently announced that its production line for polymer thiocyanate series of products, with an annual capacity of 300 metric tons, had achieved full output.
The polymer thiocyanate series of products represent a new type of electroplating material, marking a significant breakthrough for the company in eco-friendly electroplating.
Chairman Sun Songhua said the material was developed by the company's team over 15 years, with an investment of 80 million yuan ($11.03 million). It can replace the highly toxic cyanide used in traditional electroplating processes, ensuring worker safety while also enabling a compliant discharge of electroplating wastewater.

Electroplating is a crucial part of manufacturing, widely used in producing automobiles, aircraft engines, and small hardware products. Conventional electroplating materials like highly toxic cyanide had been discarded. For a long time, alternative materials have underperformed in electroplating and relied heavily on imports.
Sun said that since the company settled in Changshan county, Quzhou in 2009, it had focused on developing alternatives to traditional electroplating materials. He emphasized the local government had provided special incentive funds to support the transformation of its tech achievements.
"Next, we plan to complete the construction of related equipment and support facilities within three years and stabilize full production, with an estimated annual output value of 300 million yuan," Sun added.
