In August, during Mali's rainy season, the humid 30-degree heat in Bamako creates an environment for the spread of infectious diseases.

On Aug 24, the 29th batch of Chinese medical team to Mali was up early, with all 23 members assembling by 6 am.

Despite it being a rare day off, the team had other plans. Among them were Xu Xiaoping, the team leader from Changshan county, Quzhou, Zhejiang province, who ended his vacation early to bring back much-needed medicines and supplies, and two dedicated cooks.

Together, they were set to celebrate their Chinese Doctors' Day in Mali.
