Quzhou's ambition behind international sporting event
On the final day of 2024 Youth International Men's Basketball Challenge in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, China's team secured a 90-83 victory over Germany with two wins and one loss on July 26.
This was Quzhou's first time hosting an international basketball event, which brought together young men's basketball teams from China, Germany, Serbia, and Georgia. The event achieved an average attendance rate of over 75 percent, setting a new attendance record in China.
In preparation for this challenge, Quzhou upgraded its sports facilities and invited experts and national-level referees to provide on-site guidance, ensuring the venue met international competition standards. These improvements enhanced the spectator experience and earned high praise from other parties involved in the event.
Additionally, Quzhou has established a leadership group and promotion office for major sporting events. The office has actively promoted cooperation with cultural and sports companies, coordinated all relevant departments, and discussed details with all parties, offering prompt and detailed services.
To ensure the competition ran smoothly, the city recruited and trained over 50 volunteers, providing comprehensive services to viewers and participating teams throughout the venue.
In the process of holding a series of large-scale events and activities, Quzhou continues to upgrade its urban development, improve its services, and develop local industries. It has also gained opportunities to strengthen its capacity to organize provincial games.
Quzhou will host both the 18th Games of Zhejiang Province and the 12th Para Games of Zhejiang Province in 2026.
With the goal of becoming a modern sports powerhouse, Zhejiang has been fully leveraging the legacy of the Asian Games to attract international and domestic events and develop independent brand events.
