Quzhou's Yu helps secure bronze at Paris Olympics

The Chinese women's 4×100-meter freestyle relay team made history at the Paris Olympics on July 28 Beijing time.

Clocking in at 3:30.30, the team not only secured a bronze medal but also shattered the Asian record. This achievement marks China's first-ever Olympic medal in this event.

Quzhou native Yu Yiting played a key role in the preliminaries, helping the Chinese team advance to the finals. According to the rules, her contribution earned her a bronze medal as well — her first Olympic medal.

During the finals, the Chinese team adjusted their lineup, featuring Yang Junxuan, Cheng Yujie, Zhang Yufei, and Wu Qingfeng.

This year marks Yu's second Olympic appearance. According to the official schedule, she registered for the women's 100-meter butterfly and 200-meter individual medley events.

On the first day of the swimming competition, Yu decided to skip the 100-meter butterfly preliminaries to focus on the 4×100-meter freestyle relay. Alongside her teammates Cheng, Wu, and Yang, she secured a third-place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 3:34.31.
