Quzhou in Zhejiang province has in recent years taken significant steps to protect its valuable ancient trees.

It has established 33 cultural parks focusing on ancient trees, integrating their preservation with tourism and science education. Each year, the local government allocates over 1 million yuan ($138,900.68) in public liability insurance for the protection of the trees.

Utilizing digital methods, authorities have created a map of ancient trees, implementing dynamic management with individual profiles and unique identification numbers for precise maintenance and care.

Measures such as setting up fences, pruning, pest and disease control, hole blocking and repair, and structural reinforcement have also been employed to ensure the longevity of the trees.

The city has spent over 10 million yuan protecting 757 ancient trees, with a focus on 668 first-grade ancient trees aged over 500 years.

Quzhou is currently home to 17,245 ancient trees, including 56 millennium-old trees, 1,220 trees over 500 years old, and 2,584 trees over 300 years old.
