In the second half of last year, the village planted 5 mu (0.33 hectares) of morels, bringing more than 70,000 yuan ($10,315.09) in income. At the end of February this year, pumpkins, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers were planted, and by July revenue had increased by more than 80,000 yuan.
The village will continue to use this farming model and expand the scale of morel plantation to 35 mu, which is expected to increase the village's collective income to over 600,000 yuan this year.
Zhang Yuying, a resident of the village, can earn 120 yuan a day for doing odd jobs at the plantation while also learning planting techniques.
In addition, in February 2017, Zhejiang Suwei Agricultural Technology Co Ltd earmarked 2,068 mu of forest in the village to plant torreya grandis, with more than 1,500 mu of torreya grandis now having been planted.
Considering torreya grandis's long growth cycle, the company came up with the idea of raising native chickens under the trees. The village provides the chicks and sells them, while the company raises them, with the profits being split.
Zhang Chunxian, a resident of the village, can earn more than 2,000 yuan a month raising chickens for the company.
