Zhejiang adopts measures to help couriers weather COVID-19
East China's Zhejiang province has issued a raft of measures to help couriers weather the difficulties caused by the recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
Among the measures is a special COVID-19 insurance provided for free by Zhejiang authorities and insurance companies to those working in the express delivery industry. The insurance covers protection against COVID-19 infection, hospitalization, death as well as accidents. Presently, 100,000 people will benefit from the insurance policy, which will be extended to more people in the near future.
Another measure is the establishment of a special fund to buy epidemic prevention materials and daily necessities for couriers. So far, 100,000 yuan ($15,269) has been spent on this purpose.
Service stations will also be set up throughout the province to serve as temporary resting places and provide first-aid services for couriers.
Authorities said they are aiming to integrate more resources and leverage the province's advanced digital platforms to provide more targeted and diversified services to deliverymen working in Zhejiang.
