A list of 69 newly established national field observation and research stations was recently released by the Ministry of Science and Technology and among those that made the cut was the Research Station of Forest Biodiversity and Climate Change – from Quzhou city, in East China's Zhejiang province – according to local media reports on Oct 21.

The Quzhou station is located in the Qianjiangyuan National Forest Park which has reserves of 252 square kilometers of native evergreen broad-leaved trees at a low altitude.

The park has 392 species of bryophytes, 175 species of ferns, 1,677 species of seed plants, 449 species of macrofungi and 2,013 species of insects. It also has 264 species of birds, 44 species of mammals, 26 species of amphibians, 38 species of reptiles and 42 species of fish.

Among these are 84 species of rare and endangered wild plants at or above provincial level, and three at the national level.
