The city of Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province plans to help raise its profile by establishing a scenic belt – the "Virtuous Quzhou" poetic and charming scenic belt – and setting up a total of 100 future villages, according to local media reports on Sep 1.

Future villages – new innovative residential clusters which pursue an eco-friendly and digitalized rural lifestyle – are considered as having a key role in Quzhou's development as a common prosperity and four-province thoroughfare demonstration zone.

Because of its strategic geographic position, over the centuries Quzhou has become widely known as the thoroughfare for the four provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi and Anhui.

It is estimated that the per capita disposable income of permanent residents in Quzhou's four established future villages will increase by over 13 percent on average this year.

Meanwhile, the average growth rate of village collective income will increase 58.3 percent and the maximum growth rate will be 75.5 percent. People's sense of happiness, security and comfort, as well as their sense of identity and sense of belonging will also reportedly be enhanced.

Moving forwards, the future villages are expected to become a demonstration model for common prosperity in Quzhou.

One of them, Yudong village has been dubbed as one of the "Top Ten Farmer Painting Villages in China" and a "Home of Chinese Folk Culture and Art".

In addition, Yudong established the Quzhou Yudong Farmer Painting Development Co Ltd. It was jointly founded by the village collective, farmer painters and a professional management team, to promote the revitalization of Yudong on its path to the goal of developing "culture + tourism".

In this small mountain village of only 800 residents, more than 300 villagers have participated in producing farmers' paintings.
