Quzhou city – in East China's Zhejiang province – on Aug 23 held an opening ceremony for new cultural heritage bureau branches that have been established in counties, county-level cities and districts administered by the prefecture-level cities, according to local media reports.

There are 585 cultural relic protection institutes in Quzhou, including 16 national key cultural relic protection units, 104 provincial cultural relic protection units and 465 municipal and county-level cultural protection units.  

The Quzhou area has a history of more than 6,000 years of civilization, while the city itself is estimated to be some 1,800 years old.

It is home to many of Confucius's descendants and its Temple of Southern Confucianism is one of the only two Confucian temples in China, as well as being a key cultural heritage site under national protection.
