An exhibition was held in the municipal museum of Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province on Dec 3 and will last until the end of this month, according to local media reports.

The ongoing exhibition showcases more than 60 paintings and calligraphy works by four renowned native Quzhou artists: Du Ruwang (1914-1998), Hong Rui, Li Heng, and Liu Cun.

Du attended schools in Shanghai and Hangzhou, where he learned to paint from well-known artists such as Pan Tianshou and Zhu Lesan. For decades he lived in seclusion in the countryside honing his craft. He organized personal exhibitions at the Quzhou Museum and Zhejiang Provincial Museum in 1990 and 1991.

Born in 1923, Hong was a schoolmate of Du and hosted two solo exhibitions in Quzhou, one of which was in his home country of Longyou. Hong's works have been showcased in a number of countries.

Li, adept at both painting and calligraphy, was known for his Banqiao font, which is written in a painterly style and integrates the different writing scripts in China, including clerical, seal, cursive, and regular scripts. Li was also skilled at martial arts, acupuncture, and traditional Chinese medicine.

Liu is perhaps the most well-known of the above mentioned artists. He once assumed the posts of vice-chairman of the Zhejiang branch of the China Artists Association and chairman of the Zhejiang Bird-And-Flower Painting Institute.
