Ningbo-Zhoushan Port welcomed Frankfurt and Adams, the inaugural ships from the Gemini Alliance, at the Meishan Port container terminal on Feb 8. This marks the start of a new collaboration with the alliance formed by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.
The Gemini Alliance began operations on Feb 1. It aims to reshape the global shipping network and transform the container shipping market. The alliance has introduced 10 new long-distance routes to Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, covering regions like Europe, the Mediterranean, and the western United States.
Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has a history of strong partnerships with shipping enterprises and consistently optimizes its international trade routes. In 2024, its connectivity index ranked second globally, showcasing its importance in the international shipping network.
A port representative highlighted that its partnership with the Gemini Alliance enhances the port's shipping network, deepens connections with countries along the routes, and strengthens its position as an international hub.
The 10 new routes all call at the Meishan Port Area, known for its advanced technology and capacity to handle large container ships. The port area focuses on innovation, continuously improving operational efficiency. The port area is able to simultaneously accommodate four 200,000-metric-ton container ships.
As the new routes open up, Meishan Port remains committed to close coordination with shipping companies, ensuring efficient operations and overcoming challenges brought by route adjustments. This collaboration is set to strengthen Ningbo-Zhoushan Port's global connectivity and solidify its role in the international shipping network.
