The first Zhejiang Cultural Tourism Promotion Ambassador Challenge and the 2025 Hengdian Shangyuan Lantern Festival commenced on the evening of Jan 18 at the Qing Ming Shang He Tu area of the Hengdian World Studios in Jinhua, Zhejiang province.

Professor Ji Peng from the China Academy of Art, the artistic director of the lantern festival, captivated the audience with his introduction of the creative inspirations and cultural meanings behind each lantern group.

The lantern festival dazzled with its displays and atmosphere, transporting visitors back to the bustling streets of the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Embracing a blend of tradition and innovation, it integrated digital technology with ancient customs.

Performers recited poetry acting ancient literati like Lu You and Li Qingzhao and reenacted memorable scenes from iconic films and TV series to the audience.

Visitors not only marveled at the lanterns and performances but also immersed themselves in the "four arts of life from the Song Dynasty" — tasting tea, arranging flowers, burning incense, and hanging paintings. The experience offered a glimpse at the refined lifestyle of Song Dynasty literati and the exquisite charm of traditional Chinese culture.

Simultaneously, the Zhejiang Cultural Tourism Promotion Ambassador Challenge was announced, offering participants the opportunity to showcase their travel experiences and win exciting rewards. The challenge, running until July 10, promises a host of benefits, including free visits to Zhejiang's top attractions and accommodations in premium homestays.

With the lantern festival scheduled to last until Feb 16, visitors have plenty of time to indulge in the fun.
