In Zhejiang province, e-commerce has revolutionized agriculture, with smartphones and laptops now as indispensable as tractors and plows.
Between January and October 2024, Zhejiang's rural online retail sales reached an impressive 952.86 billion yuan ($130.65 billion), accounting for 38.8 percent of the province's total online retail revenue.
The rise of rural e-commerce has unleashed powerful clustering, scaling, and collaborative effects, connecting local agricultural products to consumers nationwide.
According to an official from Zhejiang's Department of Commerce, the province is committed to further enhancing its rural e-commerce ecosystem.
Initiatives include improving infrastructure, upgrading live-streaming capabilities, fostering e-commerce talent, and supporting new channels, formats, and digital scenarios. These efforts aim to digitize rural commerce, bolster economic vitality, and drive sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.
The integration of technology and farming signals a new chapter for Zhejiang's countryside, where innovation fuels opportunity and bridges the gap between tradition and modernity.
