The Chinese action role-playing game Black Myth: Wukong won the prestigious Ultimate Game of the Year award at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards in London on Nov 22.
Developed by Hangzhou-based Game Science, the game's victory underscores its global appeal, as winners of the Golden Joystick Awards are determined entirely by player votes.
Game Science founder and producer of Black Myth: Wukong, Feng Ji, delivered an acceptance speech, saying, "Many say the robe doesn't matter, but on a cold day, an extra robe is always welcome. I’m deeply grateful to every colleague, partner, and especially the players who supported us. Your trust and encouragement helped us cross mountains and rivers to reach this uncharted land."
Set in a mythological Chinese world inspired by the classic novel Journey to the West, the game has captured international attention with its striking visuals, innovative gameplay, and rich storytelling.
Fresh off its Golden Joystick win, Black Myth: Wukong is eyeing more accolades at The Game Awards in December. It has earned nominations in four categories: Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Action Game, and Best Art Direction. The final results will be announced on Dec 13.
