State Grid project powers Zhejiang's energy storage
Recently, staff members from State Grid Jinhua Power Supply Company conducted the first inspection of the Xinyuan energy storage project in Wuyi county, Jinhua, Zhejiang province since being in operation for a month. Over the past month, the energy storage station has delivered a total of 17.7 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity, providing a reliable power supply in the scorching summer days.
The energy storage station covers an area of about 26,666.8 square meters with a total investment of 800 million yuan ($112.5 million). Equipped with advanced lithium iron phosphate battery technology, the project features high performance, high-level safety and a long lifespan. Through highly efficient peak shaving and frequency regulation capacity for the power grid, it allows more than 200 megawatts can be charged or discharged in the Jinhua area. The station responds to the high electricity demand in summer and accurately implements peak shaving and valley filling strategies, which has steadily increased the charge and discharge capacity. According to calculations, the average daily discharge volume can reach 590,000 kilowatt-hours, which meets about 2 percent of the electricity supply in the Jinhua area, equivalent to meeting the full-day power demands of a small-sized town with a population of about 30,000 people.
"As the largest standalone energy storage project on the grid in Zhejiang province, the Xinyuan project can effectively alleviate peak power supply pressure and serve as an emergency backup power source when the quality of electric energy is restricted. It ensures a stable power supply for users. Additionally, the adoption of the energy storage station can effectively reduce the waste of new energy and promote the consumption of new energy in surrounding areas," said a staff member from the State Grid Jinhua Power Supply Company.
