Ningbo launches 'mobile museum' in Xinjiang

To celebrate this year's International Museum Day on May 18, the Ningbo Museum in Ningbo, Zhejiang province brought its treasures to Kuqa in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on May 9.

Ningbo Museum collaborated with a school in Xinjiang, blending cloud technology with immersive learning and leading 350 students and teachers from Kuqa on an enlightening voyage through Ningbo's rich history and vibrant present.

"The theme for this year's International Museum Day is 'Museums for Education and Research'," said Zhang Liang, director of the Ningbo Museum, "Our museum has embraced new educational paradigms, spotlighting regional folklore. In our 'cloud study' endeavor, we integrate live broadcasts, exhibitions, and hands-on experiences, offering students in Xinjiang a captivating and educational odyssey."

Via livestreaming, Xinjiang's students and teachers delved into an exhibition featuring Ningbo's ancient Hemudu culture and engaged in lively exchanges with th guide in Ningbo.

Complementing this virtual exploration, a "mobile museum" unveiled a tapestry of Ningbo's history through replicas and informative panels.

"It's remarkable to see the architectural contrast, especially the stilted structures, which are very different from what we have in Xinjiang," said a student.

Since Ningbo partnered with Kuqa in 2010, collaboration has been strong across economic, commercial, medical, technological, and educational spheres. Recent years have seen a surge in investment towards cultural integration, educational support, and rural vitalization.
