On March 11, residents of Shaoxing, Zhejiang province marked Longtaitou Day with an exciting dragon boat race in Shangyu district.
Longtaitou, meaning "dragon raises its head," falls on the second day of the second lunar month.
The festival is deeply rooted in ancient agrarian Chinese culture, featuring traditions that celebrate the onset of spring. While some traditional customs have faded over time, others endure.
Another tradition that has survived is getting a haircut. Many believe that visiting the barber on this auspicious day dispels any lingering bad luck.
