Wuzhen Summit 2023 goes green with renewable energy
The signing ceremony of green certificate transactions for the venues at the 2023 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit was held on Oct 18 in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province. The parties involved will use their resources to promote green electricity for the summit.
China has set the goal of peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality in Sept 2020 and increasing the use of clean energy. The Hangzhou Asian Games, which used only green electricity, were the first carbon neutral Asian Games ever.
Green electricity refers to electricity from wind, light and other renewable sources that have zero carbon emissions, unlike fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas.
During the summit, Wuzhen Xizha Scenic Area and other venues will use more than 500,000 kilowatt-hours of green electricity, reducing carbon emissions by over 380 metric tons. Green electricity consumption can be verified and traced. This will be the first green electricity conference for the WIC Wuzhen Summit.
Next, State Grid Tongxiang Power Supply Company will provide 100-percent green electricity to Wuzhen Xizha Scenic Area, the Wuzhen Internet Light Expo Center and the Wuzhen Internet International Convention and Exhibition Center according to the green certificate transactions. The company will also form a special team to propose an energy-saving and carbon-reduction plan for the summit.
