Zhoushan's offshore fishing base contributes to nation's marine economy
The Zhoushan National Pelagic Fishing Base, which was launched in 2015 in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has opened a new chapter in the city's offshore fishing industry.
With the aim of revitalizing the industry and turning China into a powerful maritime nation, the base has focused on the entire offshore fishing industrial chain and expanding and strengthening the marine fishing industry to support the high-quality development of the marine economy, creating a new growth driver for Zhoushan's marine economy, local media reported.
To date, the base's core area has attracted more than 150 enterprises, including leading national and provincial companies from various sectors of the offshore fishing industrial chain.
One of the base's major achievements has been the construction of a project funded by the Zhejiang Ocean Family. With an investment of nearly 1.2 billion yuan ($167 million), the project has created a tuna industrial park with the largest processing capacity for tuna fillets in China. It also operates the world's largest and fully traceable ultra-low-temperature tuna deep processing production line.
The project has significantly enhanced the global supply chain of tuna, positioning Zhoushan as one of the world's largest trading and processing centers for tuna.
The base has promoted digital industrialization and industrial digitalization. It has launched an online trading platform for seafood products known as "Ocean Cloud+" that has recorded a trade volume of 1.29 million metric tons and a value of 12.43 billion yuan.
