Song Dynasty charm lights up old block in Jinhua
Following months of renovation, the Wuzhou Song Dynasty (960-1279) cultural block in Jinhua, East China’s Zhejiang province was reopened to the public.
Apart from a host of new amenities, the block now has screens displaying a virtual avatar of Chinese poet Li Qingzhao (1084-1155) that provides narrations regarding the different cultural spots in the venue.
The shops, tea houses, restaurants and cultural centers in the block all sport Song Dynasty style architecture, allowing visitors to feel as if they have been transported back in time. At Baoning Gate, a costume center adds to the immersive experience by allowing tourists to try on Song Dynasty-style hanfu, a type of traditional Chinese clothing.
Tourists can also experience the charm of Song Dynasty culture through various performances and food.
The block is one of the city’s cultural projects aimed at recreating the charm of the Song Dynasty.
The city of Jinhua used to serve as auxiliary capital city in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279).
