A total of 1,600 lanterns were recently hung up in Leidian town in Huzhou's Deqing county to welcome the Lunar Chinese New Year.
The lanterns, each of which has a unique shape, were made by local schools, residential communities and enterprises.
The raw materials used to create these lanterns, which are valued at 90,000 yuan, were donated by Yao Xinhuo, president of the Zhejiang Huzhou Dongfang Construction Group Co Ltd.
In addition to the lanterns, the local government has replaced the original sodium lamps in the town with LED lights, and this is expected to help the town save roughly 200,000 yuan ($28,571) a year.
Chen Qi, Party chief of Leidian town, said that more measures will be taken to spruce up the town as part of authorities' efforts to improve the sense of happiness among local residents.
