A campaign to encourage blood donation was launched in Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang, on Tuesday.

Commemorative plaques were issued to blood donors who have donated blood more than 200 times and representatives of the blood donation teams. There are presently 112 blood donors in the province who have donated blood more than 200 times.

Healthcare workers in Zhejiang have played an exemplary role in organizing blood donation drives. From 2020 to 2021, healthcare workers in the province participated in 106,700 blood donation drives and donated 30.115 million milliliters of blood.

Hangzhou set up a new blood donation point near the West Lake on Tuesday to encourage residents and visitors to donate blood while enjoying the views of the West Lake.

Meanwhile, a new version of the e-certificate of blood donation was put into use. Statistics show that an average of 512,000 people in Zhejiang donate blood using the e-certificate. A special version for donors with rare blood types was unveiled as well.

June 14 marks the annual World Blood Donor Day, which was initiated by the World Health Organization in 2004. The slogan for the 2022 World Blood Donor Day is "Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives".
