A high-profile exhibition themed "The Glamour of The Song: The Spiritual World of Scholar-Officials" was launched at the Nanjing Museum in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, on Dec 18.
The exhibition, organized by the Nanjing Museum and the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, showcases around 300 exquisite Song Dynasty (960-1279) cultural relics from 38 museums, galleries, and archaeological institutions across China.
A large proportion of these cultural relics was excavated from the mausoleums of Song Dynasty scholars and officials in Zhejiang, and shines a light on the lives and spiritual pursuits of these individuals.
The Song Dynasty, which was founded by Emperor Zhao Kuangyin, was divided into two distinctive periods: the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) and the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279).
Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, was the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty for one and a half centuries. The influence of the Song's ruling class is still evident today in the city's layout, dining practices and customs.
The Song Dynasty is widely regarded as the golden age of culture and commercial trade in ancient China.
The exhibition will run till March 20, 2022. Admission is free.
