The first and second phase of construction of the Yungu campus of Westlake University in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, is expected to be completed by the end of September.

The third phase of the construction project is set to be launched in October and is expected to be completed in June 2024.

Founded in 2016, Westlake University is China's first private non-profit research-oriented university. Its honorary chair is Nobel laureate physicist Chen-Ning Yang.

The university, which aspires to become one of the world's top research institutes, consists of the School of Life Sciences, the School of Science, and the School of Engineering.

The Yungu campus occupies 1,495 mu (0.997 square kilometers). Its centerpiece architecture, named "Academic Ring", is a semi-circle which consists of a series of buildings dedicated to research into areas such as medicine, life science, natural science and engineering. Around 300 laboratories will be established inside the Academic Ring in the near future.
