Zhang Bing, Party secretary of Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province, met with journalists from 24 China and overseas media outlets on June 16.
During the meeting, he spoke about matters including Jiaxing's geographical advantages, culture, red boat spirit, new development concepts, high-quality development, balanced rural-urban development and common prosperity.
Zhang said that the city has a history of more than 1,700 years and has a complete highway, railway, and waterway transportation network.
One hundred years ago, the Communist Party of China convened its first national congress on a red boat over the Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing, and this explains why the city has a strong red boat spirit, he added.
According to Zhang, the city has been practicing a new development concept that revolves around innovation, coordination, greenness, openness, and sharing.
Jiaxing is currently home to more than 370 innovation platforms and over 2,400 high-tech companies.
The accumulative actual utilization of foreign capital in the city totaled $38.7 billion yuan and 84 Global Fortune 500 companies have invested in 148 projects in Jiaxing.
Zhang also pointed out that the income of Jiaxing's rural residents has been the highest in the province for 17 consecutive years. In 2020, the income ratio of urban to rural residents stood at 1.61, one of the lowest among cities in China.
