Wuyi county in Zhejiang province recently held an aquatic parade in worship of the legendary Emperor Dayu, also known as Yu the Great, who tamed the flooding of the Yellow River 4,000 years ago.

Dressing up as ancient soldiers, locals carried the sculpture of Emperor Dayu onto bamboo rafts and travelled down a river in Wuyi Lyutan Wetland Park.

The parade was also aimed at arousing people's awareness of the importance of preserving water resources.

Since 2015, the Zhejiang provincial government has been giving out the Dayu Award to the province's localities that excelled in treating sewage, preventing flooding, draining flooded land, maintaining water supply, and saving water over the previous year.
