Key economic indicators released by Zhejiang authorities

The Zhejiang Bureau of Statistics recently published the 2020 Statistical Bulletin for Zhejiang's National Economic and Social Development on its official website.

The province's GDP was 6.46 trillion yuan ($0.99 trillion) in 2020, up 3.6 percent from the previous year. The private sector contributed 66.3 percent of the province's GDP and 73.9 percent of its tax revenue last year. Private corporations, of which there were 2.6 million, made up 92.3 percent of the province's corporations.

The unemployment rate stayed between 4.3 percent and 4.9 percent throughout the year.

Total investment in high-tech industries and the transportation sector saw year-on-year increases of 7.4 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively.

Industrial enterprises above designated size (those with annual operating revenue of roughly $3.1 million or more) earned 1.67 trillion yuan in added value and 554.5 billion yuan in profits in 2020, up 5.4 percent and 14.7 percent from the previous year.

Industrial added value for those in the new-generation information technology sector surged 21 percent year-on-year.

In addition, remarkable production growth rates were seen in the new energy vehicle (77.7 percent), carbon fiber and composite material (58.7 percent), optical cable (50.8 percent), industrial robot (43.6 percent), solar battery (39.3 percent), and integrated circuit (21.2 percent) sectors.

Service enterprises above designated size earned 283.3 billion yuan in profits last year, up 10.2 percent year-on-year.

Zhejiang's foreign trade rose by 9.6 percent year-on-year to 3.38 trillion yuan in 2020, making up 10.5 percent of the national aggregate, a record high for the province.

The average disposable income of Zhejiang residents increased by 5 percent to 52,397 yuan in 2020, while the corresponding median stood at 46,125 yuan.

At the end of 2020, every 100 households in Zhejiang owned 48.2 vehicles, 73.7 personal computers (65.7 of which were connected to the internet), 247.9 mobile phones (211.5 of which were connected to the internet), 176.1 color TV sets, and 198.5 air-conditioners.
