Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province welcomed its first tramcar on Feb 3, local media reported.

Named Nanhu Lake, the 34.8-meter-long, 60-seater tramcar can accommodate up to 368 passengers and operate at a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour.

Each compartment in the tramcar features a reserved area for people with special needs, LED screens for entertainment and USB sockets at each seat.

This new intelligent tramcar can transmit vehicle status data and surveillance videos to ground control center in real time. Moreover, the tramcar is equipped with an automatic passenger counter, a driver fatigue and behavior analysis system, an obstacle detection system, and a system that prevents fare evasion.

The city plans to pave seven tramcar tracks spanning 98 km. The first phase of the project is under construction and will begin pilot operations in June.
