East China's Zhejiang province consumed 189.8 billion kilowatt-hours of clean-energy-generated electricity in 2020, making up nearly 40 percent of the total volume of its annual electricity consumption, according to the latest data from State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co.

All of Zhejiang's clean power generation was consumed within the province last year.

The province has been transitioning to wind, solar, and nuclear power generation at an accelerated pace in recent years.

As of the end of 2020, Zhejiang ran more than 230,000 distributed photovoltaic power generation projects, and their total capacity was a record 10.7 million kilowatts, breaking the 10 million kilowatt mark for the first time. In addition, photovoltaic power has replaced hydropower as the province's second largest source of power generation.  

Zhejiang has also been replacing the consumption of fossil fuels with electricity. Throughout 2020, Zhejiang completed 8,731 supersedence programs of this kind, which lead to another 9.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.

State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co has completed the construction of the Zhejiang Energy Big Data Center, which pools massive data regarding the production, transportation, storage, and consumption of various kinds of energy, including electricity, coal, petroleum, and natural gas, as well as relevant environmental and administrative service statistics. The center can accurately monitor the carbon emissions of enterprises, distribute the energy consumption quota in a scientific manner, and provide strong evidence for the removal of backward production modes.
