A total of 812,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) were shipped via sea-rail combined transport at the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in the first 10 months of this year, a yearly uptick of 22.9 percent, statistics from Ningbo Customs show.
This is more than last year's total volume.
In September, the port handled 100,000 containers via the sea-rail model, representing a year-on-year increase of 34 percent and the largest on record in a single month.
The port's container throughput is expected to surpass 1 million TEUs this year.
The sea-rail combined transport model refers to a mechanism where goods are first loaded onto trains to Ningbo and then transported overseas by sea, and vice versa.
Many customers choose sea-rail combined transport due to the stable transportation capacity by rail, according to an official from Ningbo Customs.
