The forestry industry in Zhejiang province generated 664.6 billion yuan ($95.7 billion) in revenue in 2019, up over 7 percent from the previous year, according to a recent government conference on the development of the forestry industry.
The tertiary, or service, sector of the forestry industry raked in 283-billion-yuan in revenue in 2019, representing 43 percent of the entire industry. The secondary industry, which involves processed forest goods, generated 275.4 billion yuan, making Zhejiang one of the top provinces in China in this regard.
The tertiary sector mainly consists of tourism and recuperation in forested regions, which generated around 234.8 billion yuan in revenue. Zhejiang is currently home to seven national-level demonstration counties for forest tourism and 18 provincial-level forest resorts for recuperation.
In recent years, Zhejiang has been working to develop industrial clusters for solid wood floors, wooden doors, blackwood furniture, bamboo processing, forest foodstuffs, ecological tourism, forest nurseries, and more.
Forestry is essential to the lives of many rural residents, contributing 19 percent of their income growth in 2019. Forestry even accounts for more than half of incomes for many farmers in mountainous areas.
