Lishui, Wenzhou join hands in Oujiang River judicial protection
Lishui's Longquan city and grassroots courts in Yunhe, Liandu, Jinyun and Qingtian counties signed the opinions on the establishment of a cooperative mechanism for ecological judicial protection of the Oujiang River basin with five grassroots courts from Wenzhou's Yongjia county, Ouhai, Lucheng and Longwan districts, and Yueqing city on June 2.
"Strengthening ecological judicial cooperation in the Oujiang River basin is the intrinsic requirement to improve the level of environmental resources judicial work, the only way to meet people's growing demand for environmental quality, and the inevitable choice to achieve high-quality green development," said Jiang Weiyu, president of Lishui Intermediate People's Court.
In recent years, there have been many cases about protection of water resources in Lishui and Wenzhou, which have played a judicial role in implementing a strict ecological and environmental protection system.
However, in ordinary judicial work, courts encounter illegal cases such as dumping solid waste across regions and polluting water bodies across river basins, making a new system of judicial service guarantees across administrative regions necessary.
According to officials, the establishment of a judicial protection cooperation mechanism for the Oujiang River basin will enable scientific research standardization of the trial process of river basin cases, and judicial functions to better protect the river's ecology.
Originating in Longquan, the Oujiang River is the second longest river in Zhejiang province. It passes through 10 counties (cities and districts) of Lishui and Wenzhou and flows into the East China Sea at Wenzhou Bay. The main stream is 384 kilometers long.
