Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, aims to become a role model for legal development in China, according to Zhang Bing.

Zhang, Party secretary of Jiaxing, made the statement while participating in a panel discussion of deputies to the National People's Congress from Zhejiang province about China's first complete civil code draft on May 24.

He noted that the draft confirms and cements China's achievements in civil law since the People's Republic of China's establishment in 1949.

It represents the will of ordinary Chinese people, safeguards their rights and interests, regulates economic activities, encourages ecofriendly development, and satisfies China's development demands, continued Zhang.

He said that Jiaxing strives to become a Chinese city with the most science-based laws, strictest law enforcement, and fairest judiciary.

The city will take the implementation of the civil code as an opportunity to advance the development of a law-based government and society and encourage local residents to learn about civil law, develop opinions about civil law, and follow civil law principles in an effort to build the city into a role model for legal development, he added.

Zhang also made some specific suggestions during the panel discussion on the detailed implementation of civil code rules after the code is enacted.
