Chen Wei, a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) and also the deputy director of Kecheng People's Hospital in Quzhou, has been preparing for the upcoming 13th NPC held in Beijing, local media reported on May 18.

This is the third time that Chen has participated in the annual sessions of China's top legislative and political advisory bodies (NPC and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee).

In the previous "two sessions", Chen submitted proposals about emergency treatment popularization, a hierarchical medical system, and promotion of automatic external defibrillators (AED). All of these were adopted and half of them have been implemented.

"I just want to give a voice to ordinary people through proposals and pass more Quzhou voices on to the national 'two sessions'," said Chen.

She noted that she has been keeping a close eye on AED promotion and the inclusion of first-aid knowledge and skills into compulsory education.

According to Chen, her proposals this year will still focus on healthcare, including the improvement of the family doctor system, the treatment of medical workers, and the reinforcement of rare disease management.

She is also prepared to offer suggestions on rural road traffic safety and juvenile legal education.

The Quzhou NPC deputy also plans to bring sets of public spoons and chopsticks to the national "two sessions" this year, a measure first promoted in Quzhou to help people develop a healthy dining habit.

The two sessions are due to start May 22.
