Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, is seeking to revitalize rural areas by developing a sports industry, local media reported on April 8.

The Opinions on the Implementation of a Sports Industry-Driven Rural Revitalization in Jiaxing were jointly issued by Jiaxing Municipal Bureau of Sports and the Jiaxing rural revitalization team that same day.

The document specifies six specific tasks that must be carried out.

Jiaxing will promote the construction of sports facilities in rural areas and aims to build 60 fitness rooms, 10 multipurpose sports fields, four soccer fields, three swimming pools, and more this year.

The city will promote various sports and activities, including badminton, basketball, table tennis, croquet, square dancing, chess, and cards, in rural areas and organize competitions regularly along with local boat races during the Qingming and Dragon Boat festivals.

Sports federations will be established in every town and subdistrict, and every village will establish a sports activity center and three fitness teams made up of local sports enthusiasts.

Social sports instructors are expected to be dispatched to rural areas to teach villagers about fitness and sports.

Rural areas in Jiaxing are also encouraged to hold water sporting events such as swimming, fishing, boat racing, and canoeing at their various rivers. These sporting events will be integrated with 3A-level scenic villages to form special rural travel routes.

Jiaxing will also build a group of special towns focusing on outdoor exercise in accordance with State-level standards.
